Let's Talk Health of Gray County--

hello everyone, I am so glad that you are part of our coalition. Please make yourself really comfortable with our blog as we share ideas. First off, we have many posters for the Great American Smoke Out celebration and I will posting winners this week with some of the awesome posters. You will be excited what our youth are doing and learning about healthy choices. Thank you for helping us out with GASO. I also felt it was important that you had our next meeting date on your schedule. January 29, 2009 at 6:00 p.m. for a soup supper. We will have our KDHE representatative available to us. You will enjoy Alissa Rankin. Please share this invite with all city and county officials.

Now for you on behalf of the GCHWC, I would like to wish you a happy holiday season. On Saturday, Dec. 20, from 9:30 to noon, you will be blessed to shop at the Kansas Wheat House, Inc. for 20% off morning. September 2008 minutes

The Gray County Health and Wellness Coalition met on September 25, 2008 for a meeting to discuss upcoming activities. Those in attendance were Marcia Bailey, Alissa Rankin, Rocky Stewart, and Shirley Voran.

Introductions were made and Alissa Rankin introduced herself and her responsibilities as our outreach coordinator. The minutes of the previous meeting were read and approved. Alissa made a motion to approve and Rocky seconded the motion. All in favor voted to accept the minutes as presented.

Unfinished business included blogging, school health newsletter, Great American Smokeout- November 20th, 2008, and committees.

If you want to submit anything for your newsletter, please send it to Laura.
Great American Smoke Out- November 20th will be a poster contest at all schools. Information will be sent to schools and Rocky felt he could come up with guidelines.
Promotion is attached. We will judge all posters at our November 20th meeting.
Posters will be displayed in businesses and schools. Prizes for winners will be bowling to promote physical activity.
Committees- establish committees as necessary.

New Business included Quitline, Let’s Get Healthy radio program, and 3rd annual coordinated school health conference.
Quitline- our numbers our down and we need to promote Quitline. We will spend time promoting Quitline with medical professionals and clinics.

All of those in attendance celebrated with healthy snacks.

With no further business, the meeting was adjourned.

Back to school and in a routine. The Gray County Health and Wellness Coalition held a meeting in July and several items were discussed such as Great America Smokeout, Operation Stretch 50, member participation, committee responsibilities, and creating a healthier community. Please take a moment and sign up a committee or two.

WE WILL BE HAVING A POT LUCK SUPPER AND WE ASK THAT YOU BRING SOMETHING TO EAT THAT IS GROWN IN GRAY. GROWN IN GRAY COUNTY simply means a food that is grown in Gray County. Be ready to eat at 7:17 p.m. We will have the plates, silverware, and beverages on hand. Can't wait to celebrate with you. We have lots of planning to do and The Great American Smokeout is just around the corner. Please let us know through email or blogging what you are interested in.
